How do you dream? Do you remember your dreams? Do you dream in color? It has been suggested to me that my dreams are unusual. I frequently dream in color and many people from my past and present appear in them. Sometimes I will see someone walking through. Other times I’ll spend most of the dream on some adventure or other with them. At least once I had a dream that was narrated. I’ve had first person dreams, second person dreams, and dreams where it all unfolds before me like I’m watching a movie but I’m not participating in it. I was watching a television show once where the main character was undergoing some harrowing adventures and figured out in the midst of them that he was dreaming. He figured this out because he realized he was unable to read and reasoned correctly that he was dreaming because you can’t read in a dream. When the main character figured it out I realized he was right because I couldn’t read in my dreams. Except, since seeing that drama I sometimes do now read in my dreams. When I can’t read in my dreams I’m aware that it is a dream.
I said all this to tell you about an odd dream, even for me, I had. It was before a get-together of my high-school graduation class. In the dream I was sitting in a chair and one of my classmates I haven’t seen in 40 years came and squatted in front of me and we spoke. I recognized him immediately although he had changed a lot from the skinny kid with whom I went to high-school. He had gained maybe 90 lbs. and he was balding. We spoke briefly, just light conversation, and he stood and moved on. THIS GUY DIED OVER 20 YEARS AGO. As I looked around the room I saw my cousin come in. He was dressed sharply in a shiny light blue/magenta tuxedo with black detailing and wearing a sort of matching coverlet , tied neatly in the back, to disguise the neck brace he was wearing. MY COUSIN DIED IN A CAR WRECK 5 YEARS AGO. I wakened a little freaked-out as you might imagine, and with a bit of concern about the doctor appointment I had later that week. Everything turned out okay.
